Abstract

Roughly 40 percent of all food available to American households gets thrown out. Of the many problems associated with food waste, one that is usually overlooked is its impact on the environment. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 75 billion pounds of food ends up in landfills across the United States (US) each year.
