Become A Book Reviewer or Interviewer for Policy Perspectives!

 

Policy Perspectives, the Trachtenberg School’s student-run journal, is now accepting interview and book review proposals for Volume 24! Policy Perspectives welcomes all current and former TSPPPA master’s, PhD, or certificate students to submit proposals by 11:59 PM on Monday, December 5.

Interview Proposal Guidelines

  • In approximately 500 to 750 words, your interview proposal should identify the person you wish to interview, explain why the person is significant, and lay out a realistic plan to conduct the interview.
  • We do not have specific content requirements, but we suggest reviewing the interviews that Policy Perspectives has published in past volumes (for example, with Trachtenberg alumni Andrew DiRosa and Admiral Thad Allen) to get a sense of what might be appropriate.

Book Review Proposal Guidelines

  • In approximately 500 to 750 words, your book review proposal should identify a work in the fields of public policy or public administration and explain why the book is significant.
  • You may also choose to review multiple related books together.
  • You do not need to have finished reading the book(s) at the time you submit your proposal, nor do you need to submit a draft of the review itself. After reviewers are selected, you will have until Tuesday, January 17, 2017 to read the book(s) and write the review.
  • We do not have specific content requirements, but we suggest reviewing past book reviews on our web site to get a sense of what might be appropriate.
  • We will not publish reviews of books that have already been reviewed by Policy Perspectives.

Please submit only one interview or book review proposal for consideration. If you are already a Policy Perspectives author or Associate Editor, you may not submit a proposal.

Please follow the instructions below to submit your proposal anonymously:

  1. Upload your proposal herealong with a brief writing sample with your name and any other identifying information removed from the file.
  1. Send an email with your name and book title OR name of your proposed interviewee to polpersp@gwu.edu with the subject line “Volume 24 Book Review Proposal” or “Volume 24 Interview Proposal.”

Proposals are due by 11:59 PM on Monday, December 5. Everyone who submits an interview or book review proposal will hear back by Sunday, December 18.

Join Policy Perspectives!

 

Policy Perspectives, TSPPPA’s student-run journal, is recruiting Associate Editors for the print journal and Staff Writers for the blog!

 

ASSOCIATE EDITORS will be responsible for overseeing the editorial process for one academic article from September 2016 to March 2017. As an associate editor, you will edit and provide feedback on an article, communicate regularly with journal leadership and the article’s Faculty Reviewer, and attend two editorial workshops. You will also be part of an amazing team of TSPPPA students and faculty!

 

STAFF WRITERS will be responsible for creating blog content every 4 to 6 weeks. As a staff writer, you will produce content for the blog (at least 2 pieces per semester) or may solicit it from others. You will have the freedom to write about any policy issue you choose and are encouraged to explore new interests.

 

To apply for either position upload your resume through this form. The Associate Editor application also requires an editing task, which could take up to an hour to complete. For the Staff Writer position, please upload a 2 – 3 page writing sample (of any style of writing), and 3 ideas for blog content. Applications are due Friday, September 16th at 11:59 p.m. EST. All applicants will hear back by Wednesday, September 28.

SUBMIT an ARTICLE for POLICY PERSPECTIVES VOLUME 24!

 
Policy Perspectives is now accepting article submissions for Volume 24! Whether you are a student or alum, MPA or MPP, PhD or certificate, if you are a T-Berger, you are eligible to submit an article! We do not have specific length or content requirements, but we suggest reviewing past articles on our website to get a sense of what might be appropriate. We particularly recommend ensuring that your topic has not already been covered in recent volumes of Policy Perspectives.

You may only submit one article for consideration. Furthermore, in order to review submissions as fairly as possible, we ask that you submit your article anonymously. To do so:


  1. Upload your article through this form with your name(s) and any other identifying information removed from the file.


  1. Send an email with your name(s) and article title to polpersp@gwu.edu with the subject line “Volume 24 Article Submission.”

STAFF WRITER POSITION DESCRIPTION

Staff Writers will be responsible for creating blog content every 4 to 6 weeks. As a staff writer, you will:

  • Work in teams of 2 to produce content (at least 3 – 4 pieces) on assigned weeks.  Content may be written by a Staff Writer or may be solicited from others.

  • Do the first round of edits and fact checking for any content submitted through the blog’s content submission form, as assigned

  • Generate social media posts (facebook and twitter) for blog content on assigned weeks

  • Attend a writing workshop in Fall of 2015

To apply, submit your resume, a 1 – 3 page writing sample (of any style of writing), and 3 ideas for blog content through this form by Sunday September 6th at 11:59 PM EST. All applicants will hear back by Saturday, September 12.

Volume 23 Article Submissions Due Soon!

 

We welcome all current and former TSPPPA students to submit an article to Policy Perspectives, whether you are pursuing or have completed your master’s degree, doctorate, or a certificate. In order to showcase the work of as diverse a group of people as possible, we do not accept submissions from individuals who have already published work in Policy Perspectives. We do, however, accept submissions with multiple authors. We do not have specific length or content requirements, but we suggest reviewing past articles on our website to get a sense of what might be appropriate. We particularly recommend ensuring that your topic has not already been covered in recent volumes of Policy Perspectives.
